Thank you! The story did end up rather more poignant and melancholy than I'd intended. I knew from the start that it would be a story of missed opportunities and almost-friendships that didn't quite work out, but I'd expected a bit more light. I was going to write a scene set during her darkest hours in LotR, but by that point, I felt that the story just couldn't take any more sadness, and needed to move to hope.
