Back to Middle-earth Month

I enjoyed this story. The different circumstances under which the candle is lit make an effective contrast, and it's good to end with hope for the future. The scenes with the candle-lighting, especially being done by the women of the family, reminds me of Jewish traditions relating to Shabbat and Hanukkah (though of course many religions and cultures have customs of lighting a candle or other flame).
