Summary: Feanor's proclamation sets Tirion's households to sixes and sevens.
Households were torn asunder as the Noldor argued about their king’s decision, and the terrible oath he had made.
“You must be insane to go against the Valar like this! I didn’t want you to go with him into exile, and now you’re going to leave Valinor in his wake? Don’t you hear what I’m saying, Herucalmo? I forbid you to leave this house! Feanor may be Finwe’s true heir, but that doesn’t make him right! How can you think the Powers will even let you fools leave Tirion, much less cross the great sea? No, of course I’m not going to let you go through with this folly, much less accompany you in it! If you go out that door to follow Feanor, you’ll never be welcome in my home again even if you do manage to get the Silmarils back!”
Valamírë sank down on her doorstep in despair, weeping, as her husband walked away, his love for her less than his bedazzlement by the persuasive words of Feanor.

And yet, in the furor and conflict, new households were begun.
Standing in the doorway, barefoot and bedraggled, Fereniën proudly defended her actions to her intended.
“Father took away my things, and locked me in. I climbed down the trellis and over the wall of the back garden. Of course I can’t travel in my nightdress, Herendil, but if you think I’m going to remain behind here, while you go with Feanor to save Middle-earth, you’ve got another think coming!”
