Favorite characters:This is hard because usually it’s whoever I’m writing at the moment and depends on the phase of my Tolkien fascination. When I first read it way back when, my favorites were Gandalf, Frodo, Sam, Elrond and Galadriel. When first in the fandom it was definitely Legolas, and Elladan and Elrohir, a bit later Glorfindel and Erestor. When I changed to Silmarillion stories, favorites included Fëanor, Elrond, Finrod, my version of Oropher, Mablung, Beleg and lately I’m enjoying Glorfindel again and Ecthelion. My Númenor fic caused me to delve into Sauron as a character and I find him fascinating.
How you participate in fandom:writing, research, reading & reviewing, beta work, socializing, cheerleading, My Slashy fic swaps, LJ.
Main interests in your Tolkien fanworks (characters, races, relationships, etc): See above favorite characters. Main interests are elves, slashy relationships, the tension between desire and cultural restrictions, and between mortality and immortality.
Link(s) to your fanworks:
I’ve had fics in many archives over the years, now mostly shrunk to SWG (http://www.silmarillionwritersguild.org/archive/home/viewuser.php?uid=66), Faerie (http://efiction.esteliel.de/viewuser.php?uid=43), AO3 (http://archiveofourown.org/users/elfscribe)
Other fandoms you participate in: I’ve written fics in the Mary Renault “Alexander”; Ellen Kushner “Swordspoint” series; Storm Constantine “Wraeththu” series; Diana Gabaldon “Lord John” series. Those fics reside on AO3. Storm published one of my Wraeththu novellas in a collection of fanfiction called Paragenesis. I’ve read stories in a variety of other fandoms. I believe strongly in leaving reviews when I've read and enjoyed a story. Reviews=fandom currency.
Other sites you use (Tumblr, Dreamwidth, etc.): Livejournal mostly. I have a rarely used Tumblr account.
Non-fandom interests: history, archaeology, writing, science fiction/fantasy, politics
How often and what do you post:It’s sporadic. I’ve had periods of hiatus and then come back.
How often you read your friends-list and/or comment: At least several times a week, often daily.
Friending policy:Most of my posts are f-locked but I welcome new friends. If you send me an LJ message, I’ll respond and if we have similar interests, especially if you're in the Tolkien fandom, I’ll friend you back.
To finish off: what’s your favorite Tolkien quote?Oh, so many! Bilbo’s poem I sit beside the fire and think . . .“I sit beside the fire and think of how the world will be when winter comes without a spring that I shall ever see.” It makes me cry every time. Sam’s song in the tower of Cirth Ungol, “Though here at journey’s end I lie in darkness buried deep, beyond all towers strong and high, beyond all mountains steep, above all shadows rides the Sun and Stars forever dwell: I will not say the Day is done, nor bid the Stars farewell.”
“If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.” “It’s a dangerous business going out your door. You step onto the road and if you don’t keep your feet, there’s no telling where you might be swept off to.”
“Never laugh at live dragons.”
