She has a real presence! Some of what you're doing there reminds me a little of what Tolkien himself did with Shelob. But this one is a hunter in the water, of course--and it comes across very vividly as her element. I guess some of the things Gandalf says about creatures like her quite lend themselves to a Lovecraftian interpretation, don't they?
