Thanks, Shirebound! I wrote this pretty quickly, so I'm glad the imagery worked for you. The archetype of the hero's journey (and Tolkien drew heavily on what Joseph Campbell called the monomyth) has a little bit of influence here - the Watcher takes the role of the guardian of the threshold.
