All the way through this tale I was thinking, 'they don't know it's going to get worse'. I like your writing of Fingolfin as a peace maker; trying to find a way through and keep a steady head, trying to re-assure and keep, Anaire and the rest of his household calm.
I'm re-reading the Silmarillion after many years, and I'm struck how it is a tale of 'paradise lost'.
