I did not know I wanted this! OMG! I love this breakdown. It is absolutely wonderful. I totally love three things about it:
1) It includes, of course, one of my favorite kisses in all of literature, which is coincidentally one of my favorite passages from LotR: "I would," said Faramir. And he took her in his arms and kissed her under the sunlit sky, and he cared not that they stood high upon the walls in the sight of many. And many indeed saw them and the light that shone about them as they came down from the walls and went hand in hand to the Houses of Healing.
2) The total tear jerker from Unfinished Tales: And setting Túrin on a table [Húrin] kissed his son, and said: "You overtop me already, son of Morwen; soon you will be as high on your own feet.' Poor little Túrin. Tolkien really rips my heart out with Húrin, starting with what a warm guy he is before the chain of terrible events kicked in. (Love the early dialog between him and Morwen also.)
3) The ambiguous kisses!! OMG! I maintained for years that I thought Beleg and Túrin was a canon relationship. And the remarks about no wonder the ship with Sam and Frodo has been sailing for years! (Or is it still? I am kind of out of touch with the strictly LotR side of fandom.)
A fabulous service to the fandom!
What is it with cutting all the women's lines/interactions and then cutting all the kisses? Clearly Christopher felt a pull that, in most of our opinions, made the works less vibrant than they otherwise might have been.
