Dawn’s Beauty Revealed
Frodo awoke, his hand hurting. His eyes were gritty, and he was thirsty. Sitting up, he realized the landscape was very different from what he remembered – no sharp rocks, no volcanic flame beckoning him. He shook his head, realizing there was no voice in his head for the first time in what seemed like a lifetime.
He stood slowly and turned in a circle. He was in an open-walled tent and a gentle breeze was blowing. Gazing out, he saw the sun rising in the distance. As it crossed Sam’s face, he thought he had never seen anything so beautiful.
* * * * *
The voyage was easy, although lonely, and he still didn’t like boats; but the waters had been calm for most of the journey. When they reached the chain of barrier islands there were storms and restless seas, but their passage through was swift, and now, as night was ending, the ship was east of the harbor.
“Tol Eressëa,” said an elf standing next to him. “Here is where all ships disembark.” Sam nodded, then scanned the small crowd near the dock. As the rising sun highlighted Frodo standing atop a nearby hillock, his breath caught and tears filled his eyes.
