Yeah, LJ does seem to be heading toward disappearing. It will probably never do so entirely, but it'll be a ghost town sooner or later. And like you, I've had archives disappear on me, though I wasn't posting fic on them but merely reading.
This isn't an easy choice to make given the history and nostalgia here, but it's not just about the past. :\
