Oh, same here. I love that these theories exist and (possibly?) can explain Life, The Universe And Everything, but I have not (yet?) managed to get into it. I just read "strings, like harpstrings?" and "brane, like membrane?" and vibrations and oscillations and think of music. But I don't know enough maths or advanced physics to truly get behind it, so like you, I keep on hoping that someone who knows both the Silmarillion and quantum physics will at some point appear and put the two together. (As for your dream, you never know who you stumble into on the internet! ;))
He seems to like fans analyzing (or making fanworks of) his work when he agreed with them and not so much when he didn't! Hah! You may be on to something! And he does admit that the "particular use" of motives is interesting to consider, and in order to consider it properly, one has to know more about these motives (or situations). But in one letter he did complain that people would be picking apart the bones rather than enjoying the soup cooked from them. (I'd argue that cooks need to know what a good soup is made of!)

Hah! You may be on to something!
