Well, in HoME she seems to leave Tirion with Fingolfin and then somehow disappear, without actually dying. Not unusual behaviour for females in Tolkien 'verse, as they keep getting sucked into transdimensional holes, apparently. So it doesn't really need explanation. As I'm sure you notice, I set about explaining it anyway...
