B2MeM Prompt, Card and Number: B12 - The Late, Great Mary Oliver Card - “Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air, are heading home again.”
Format: Ficlet
Genre: humor
Rating: Gen
Warnings: None
Characters: Maglor
Pairings: None
Creator’s Notes: It's such a beautiful poem, it almost makes me forget how ... annoying geese are. Almost.
Summary: The seasons changes. Maglor doesn't.

Autumn wrapped its arms around Maglor’s shoulder, like an old friend. Such an old friend that, they had no use for formality. The seasons came in and went out, but Maglor remained the same. Playfully, the wind would blow the scarf from his neck and the sea fretted endlessly against his door, hungry to eat the stones it rested on.

In the far distant horizon, Maglor could sometimes make out faint outline of ships going out to some far somewhere. Evidence, then that the world at large still marched forward. Bold young men still traveled to distant lands and found ruin there.

Such melancholy thoughts Maglor entertained in his head until he heard the sound of wild geese. Then he saw them -- come down on the field beyond his own little house, resting there until they found strength to fly again. He supposed he ought to admire their vigor and determination to get home. And he did, of course he did.

However, their incessant honking did disturb his magnificent isolation quite a bit.
