B2MeM Prompt, Card and Number:B11: 30, ladybug, 34, rivers, 103, body horror
Format: ficlet
Genre: horror
Rating: PG
Warnings: small mention of death
Creator’s Notes (optional):what could be better on a hot day than a day at the shores of a river?
Summary:an unexpected find on a hot summer day.
FLOTSAM
It was a hot day and anyone who could, finished their chores early and headed for the river. While most splashed in the shallows, she walked downstream towards the mid-summer flowers. "A basket of flowers will brighten everyone's spirits at the evening meal tonight," she thought
Noticing the interest of large numbers of ladybugs, flies and dragonflies, she veered from the shore into the open fields. Suddenly she fell forward, tripped by something hidden by the grasses. Angered, she sat up and moved the blades away. What had tripped her?
She jumped up frantically and screamed. Others nearby stopped what they were doing and immediately ran towards her, several pulling out their weapons. They found her pointing toward an arm partially hidden in the grass and weeds. Two elves immediately dropped to their knees and began clearing the overgrowth.
The body had been there long enough to be partially eaten by predators and insects. They ignored the sounds of sickness from some of their companions, it was a pretty horrible body, after all.
