I sometimes think the little boy would have been asked to be an adult — not intentionally, mind, but by circumstance of living in that complicated household— before he was quite prepared.
I also wonder if we weren’t intended to think about the different makers and givers in these tales, especially given the significance attached to gift giving. We have Fëanor able to make works of brilliance but unable to let them go, Sauron pretending to make works for others but using them as a way to collect power for himself and then Celebrimbor who does manage to give away his greatest works, the purpose of which was one of giving (power to inspire, power to heal, power to preserve). It’s interesting, anyway.
