B2MeM Challenge: Beasty: Toad & Rangers of the North: Annúminas (B15) + icon 5 Books 5 characters: Aredhel (B15)
Format: Ficlet
Genre: General  -
Rating: G
Warnings:  None
Characters: LOTRO verse – two player characters
Pairings: NA
Summary:  On the lakeside Gilreth considers the past.
Authors Notes: Well this is told from the perspective of my minstrel elf Gilreth in LOTRO. The other character  is Droroin the dwarven Champion of my husband (plus one mention of my brother's PC Ciowyn). We tend  to be found as a pair a lot of the time – and I have a backstory for how we met (semi-RP when I can as on Laurelin). Not particularly good on one prompt I am afraid – but prompted by the screenshot at the top of story of Annúminas at night in game.

Annuminas Night

The ruined city looks strange in the half gloom of twilight as we approach it. Although we are in shallow water around here I am pleased to see that we are not encountering the creatures that I have in other parts of Eriador in similar conditions. Droroin at my side grumbles about the lack of things to kill but I am grateful for once to not be fighting a path clear to approach a new place. We do make a good pair in these troubled times – if a little unusual – the peace-loving and morale rising Elf accompanied by her dwarven companion in heavy armour with two axes. The armour once again has been repaired and re-made as of when we last found a forge. Droroin will manage to dent his armour – think it is the enthusiasm with which he runs into fights.

“Given the hour do we make camp and approach Annúminas in the morning? Given what we have been told by friends?”

“I suppose we should rest. Those Angmarians that Ciowyn told us of sound a bit keen – and he said spirits came out at night.”

“Here seems like a good place to do so – we are on the lake shore but there do not seem to be creatures that haunt the waters as we have seen in other places. “

“Well no unfriendly ones” comes the comment from the dwarf as he points his axe towards various creatures around. This includes toads that are obviously taking advantage of the cloud of insects around to catch their dinner. We will just have to eat trail bread again as we cannot risk a fire this close to unfriendly eyes. The Angmarim need reminding that they may be here now but one day the Rangers will return if everything goes as they hope.

I sit at the lake’s edge admiring the view as dusk settles and night falls over the once great city of Annúminas. I never came this way when it was the great city told of in the tales in the Halls of Fire. But I have heard many stories of the place and even in its ruins I can see the grandeur it once held. I sit in quiet contemplation of past times while the dwarf sleeps and around me toads continue to hunt the night insects.

I am well experienced at beinb an elf following an overly-enthusiastic and well-armed dwarf around LOTRUI since my own 'odd couple' has been runnung over the landscape for years. It's rather fun, isn't it? Seeing Middle Earth from a dwarf's perspective?

My dwarf (my DH) has full slates of characters, every class he can. Right now more than half are capped at 75, where I only run three characters, and my top one is still 65 with my others still in the early 40's. I would rather write than play - shame on me :-)
