Summary:

In later years, Arwen found herself thinking more and more upon a conversation-- one of the few-- that she had with her mother-in-law. They had been sitting in Gilraen's garden, waiting.

They always waited.

But, this one day, Gilraen told her that she had waited all her life, even for Arathorn, young though she had been when she became his wife. She had waited before, waited after...

"Love," she said, "is patience. Sacrifice. And, ultimately, it is loss."

Already did she know all she cared to know of patience and sacrifice. She was not ready to learn more.
