He was feasting with Vidugavia and the other chieftains when she came in, bearing the cups as was their custom, and Valacar noticed that same anticipation building up within him for her to come close, pour the mead, lock eyes, graze his fingers, mayhap, as she held out the cup--

And like an arrow came the realization that always one of her kinswomen, never herself, performed the ritual for him, and he was surprised to find under his anger not contempt but deep-seated longing.

For the first time, he knew that Vidumavi alone could quench this thirst he felt.

Hooray for your Bingo-winning drabble! And a lovely one it is, too. Kind of amazing to think that it might have been such a small moment that changed the course of Gondor's history, indeed...

Thank you, Aliana! Playing has been so fun, it's always sad to see the days go by and know that it will have to come to an end at some point...

Anyway, I'm so glad you liked it. I am somewhat fixated on this couple. Their history is so intriguing and, though they may not have fully realized it, so life-altering to so many!
