Summary: Necessity is the mother of invention.
A/N: I subscribe to Altariel's concept that Amrothos invented the printing press. For the purposes of this Drabble, however, I will assume that this is a precursor to it and was lost during the downfall. Altariel, I hope you approve :-) (And if you have not read Altariel's Drabble on this subject, or her wonderful story The Machine that Changed the World, please do so. It's absolutely delightful!)

When the Faithful saw it (those with access to it, anyway, at first only a small group, for obvious reasons) they were in complete disbelief. Row upon row of neat writing (not hand-writing) in even rows, with even spacing, taunted them from the page. And pages were all over the city, all exactly alike.

"The Valar wrought this!" someone would gasp, and Anárion would smile. That the Valar would work a subversive paper was an entertaining notion; though, who knows whence inspiration comes? Likely, the One had put the capacity within them from the start.

Mua ha, technology in the hands of people with ideas can be revolutionary, indeed. Then it depends on whose ideas they are... I imagine rag girls in Númenor, secret Faithful, passing out leaflets about ships sailing and secret meetings to their neighbors in hiding.
