Warnings: None
Characters: Gríma Wormtongue
Pairings: N/A
Summary: Gríma takes the plunge.

Edge of Ruin

He had thought there was nothing to compare with the might of Isengard. Until now.

At his shoulder stands the tree-man (the tree-man!), watching. Gríma puts a nervous toe in the dark water and draws it hastily back. Hearing the ominous creak of boughs, he takes the plunge. Soon he is up to his neck in filth and slime. Then his foot slips...

He lunges out for a piece of old barrel and hangs on. A passing duck throws him a mocking glance. He paddles along with one feeble hand. Behind him the trees; ahead, Orthanc – waiting to receive him.

Wait, you ate an Ent for lunch yesterday? Or a barrel? :-P

(Just kidding; I assume it was duck, as that seems like the most edible thing in the drabble. Tasssty duckses, precious.)

On a slightly more serious note, I like your description. You manage to create a very vivid scene in a few words.

I love this. It was a no win situation for Grima, at that point and he still kept on. He must have been deeply enslaved or just very loyal to the wrong side. I like the inclusion of the duck.

I remember this from the books, but it's nice to see it expanded.
