Note from Dawn: I will be offline for the next week for Spring Break, so Rhapsody will kindly be posting the final two prompts in my absence. I hope everyone enjoys the final prompts--it was another rockin' year! Thank you all! :) A reminder that, for the next week, if you need to get in touch with someone urgently for a B2MeM-related question/issue, to please email moderator@silmarillionwritersguild.org rather than contacting me personally; I'm going to try to check in regularly, but you'll get a quicker response if you send your query to all of the mods rather than just me. /note

B2MeM 2013 Day Twenty-NineBelow are three prompts, one from each of the three major eras of Arda’s history. To participate, choose one that sounds interesting, locate the quote in the books (that’s the scavenger hunt bit!), read the surrounding passage or chapter, and create your piece based on that.

Your piece does not need to be based on the scene from the quote. While this is certainly one approach, you could also write about a character, location, or theme found in the scene. Remember, there’s no prompt police, and we encourage creative use of the prompts!

B2MeM 2013 Day Twenty-Nine "Some there are who have seen her standing like a tree under heaven, crowned with the Sun; and from all its branches there spilled a golden dew upon the barren earth, and it grew green with corn."

B2MeM 2013 Day Twenty-Nine "They did not speak, for no one, save only the King, spoke upon the height of Meneltarma; but as they came down Erendis stood a moment, looking towards Emerië, and beyond, towards the woods of her home.

'Do you not love the Yôzâyan?' she said.

'I love it indeed,' he answered, 'though I think that you doubt it. For I think also of what it may be in time to come, and the hope and splendour of its people; and I believe that a gift should not lie idle in hoard.'"
B2MeM 2013 Day Twenty-Nine "There were no more sounds. Even the leaves were silent, and the very falls seemed to be hushed. Frodo sat and shivered in his wraps. He was thankful that they had not been caught on the ground; but he felt that the trees offered little protection, except concealment. Orcs were as keen as hounds on a scent, it was said, but they could also climb. He drew out Sting: it flashed and glittered like a blue flame and then slowly faded again and grew dull. In spite of the fading of his sword the feeling of immediate danger did not leave Frodo, rather it grew stronger. He got up and crawled to the opening and peered down. He was almost certain that he could hear stealthy movements at the tree's foot far below."
