B2MeM Challenge: O72, Controversial topics – Do Balrogs have wings?

Summary:  The Balrog Slayer intervenes when siblings argue.  Arwen is the elvish equivalent of a mortal 8-year-old.

Ongoing Argument

“Yes , they do! See!  They’re right here in this picture!”

“No, they don’t, Arwen.  That picture was painted over an Age from when it happened.  The artist never even lived in Gondolin.  It doesn’t prove anything.”

“How do you know?  Maybe he talked to a survivor—“ Arwen’s childish voice became shriller and louder with her frustration.

Glorfindel rolled his eyes as Elrohir continued to argue with his little sister, and left the nook where he’d been reading.  “That’s enough, you two.  Other people are using this library too, you know.“ 

“Glorfindel, you know if Balrogs have wings, don’t you?” Arwen pulled on his sleeve, using her shining grey eyes to great persuasive effect.

“Of course, I do--. “

“See, Roh!  I was right!”

Elrohir glared at his sister when she punched him in the arm as if to prove her point about the painting. 

But,” the Balrog-Slayer added smugly, folding his arms across his chest,  “I’m not telling.”

Glorfindel fled the library, laughing, with Elrond’s children in outraged pursuit.
