[personal profile] dawn_felagund posting in [community profile] b2mem
This is the post where you will claim the prompt you want to work on for B2MeM 2014: Seasons of Middle-earth. Below are instructions for claiming a prompt and the prompt list. Please make sure that you have carefully read the expectations and guidelines before claiming your prompt.

Prompt claims are now CLOSED. If you are interested in writing for B2MeM this year, you are welcome to play with any of the prompts and post your fanworks to the community during the month of March. We will have special days set aside for revealing pieces that weren't created for the compilation. See this post for more information on how to share work that wasn't created for the compilation.

Instructions for Claiming a Prompt

  1. The first phase of prompt claims will run from 12 January to 22 January. During this time, each participant will be allowed to claim one writing prompt and one art prompt. (Yes, that means that if you are both a writer and an artist, then you can claim a total of two prompts.)
  2. The second phase of prompt claims will begin 23 January to 21 February. During this time, all participants can claim extra prompts if they want to. If you do not think you can complete it, please do not claim it.
  3. All claims will close on 21 February at 11:59 PM GMT. We will not accept additional claims after that time.
  4. To claim your prompt, copy the form below, paste it into a comment, and fill it out. Only list second and third prompt choices if you would be willing to create something for that prompt if your first choice is not available. If your first-choice prompt is the only prompt you truly want to work with, then please do not list alternate choices.
  5. If you are claiming a writing and art prompt, post a new comment for each prompt you claim.
  6. Because it is possible for the same prompt to be claimed by a writer and an artist, then the possibility exists for the two to collaborate. If you'd be willing to collaborate with a writer (for an art claim) or an artist (for a writing claim), then answer YES for collaboration. This does not mean that you will be required to collaborate; it only means that, if the prompt is claimed by a writer and artist who both agree to collaborate, we will put you in touch with each other so that you can discuss if you want to work together or separately.
  7. Do not start working on your piece until you receive an email from us, confirming the prompt you've been assigned. If you do not hear from us within a day, feel free to query at b2mem.mod@gmail.com. We will fill in the prompt chart as prompts are claimed, but understandably, there will be lag time between new claims and the chart being updated.

To claim a prompt, copy the form below, paste it into a comment, and fill it out. All comments are screened, and no comment including contact information will be unscreened.

Ides of March (March 15)
Due Date March 8

Prompt Writer Artist
"I sit beside the fire and think
of all that I have seen,
of meadow-flowers and butterflies
in summers that have been;
Of yellow leaves and gossamer
in autumns that there were,
with morning mist and silver sun
and wind upon my hair.
I sit beside the fire and think
of how the world will be
when winter comes without a spring
that I shall ever see.
For still there are so many things
that I have never seen:
in every wood in every spring
there is a different green.
I sit beside the fire and think
of people long ago,
and people who will see a world
that I shall never know.
But all the while I sit and think
of times there were before,
I listen for returning feet
and voices at the door." (Fellowship of the Ring, "The Ring Goes South")

March 30-31
Due Date March 23

Prompt Writer Artist
"In the willow-meads of Tasarinan I walked in the Spring.
Ah! the sight and the smell of the Spring in Nan-tasarion!
And I said that was good.
I wandered in Summer in the elm-woods of Ossiriand.
Ah! the light and the music in the Summer by the Seven Rivers of Ossir!
And I thought that was best.
To the beeches of Neldoreth I came in the Autumn.
Ah! the gold and the red and the sighing of leaves in the Autumn in Taur-na-neldor!
It was more than my desire.
To the pine-trees upon the highland of Dorthonion I climbed in the Winter.
Ah! the wind and the whiteness and the black branches of Winter upon Orod-na-Thôn!
My voice went up and sang in the sky.
And now all those lands lie under the wave,
And I walk in Ambarona, in Tauremorna, in Aldalómë,
In my own land, in the country of Fangorn,
Where the roots are long,
And the years lie thicker than the leaves
In Tauremornalómë.

After finishing this song Treebeard walked on silently through the silent woods." (The Two Towers, "Treebeard")

I have a question and I didn't know where to ask. I've thinking about doing the midsummer holiday one but in Middle-earth is Lithe the same is Beltane? I want to make sure that I am accurately doing it right. I'm still learning about it all.

Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask.

What do I do if I want to write for the prompts (as many prompts as possible) without "claiming" them? Am I allowed to post what I write during the general period when each prompt is marked off there, or do I have to wait until B2MEM is over, or can I not post them at all?

You're welcome to write for any prompts that strike your fancy during the month, without claiming them. You can post them in this community, but only on days designated as "non-compilation" days. =) See also this post. (http://b2mem.livejournal.com/248866.html)
