B2MeM Challenge: "Any kind of fanwork - story, art, craft - show us or tell us about a book/scroll/manuscript from Elrond’s library. Title, description, summary, cover, binding, endpapers, the art of book-binding, illumination or anything related, or a story about one particular book, be it its creation, history, content, or just playing a major role in any kind of story. It doesn’t have to be a complete work/book either. Anything goes here, provided it centers around anything that has to do with the Library of Rivendell." - [livejournal.com profile] the_winterwitch
Format: catalogue, WIP
Genre: meta
Rating: General
Warnings: none
Characters: Erestor
Pairing: Rivendell's librarian/books
Summary:
Erestor tries hard to keep track of Rivendell's growing number of books. It can be a bit of a struggle, especially in March...
Creator's Notes:
Please help by submitting any books or literary works you invent for B2MeM 2015 fanworks in the comments to this post (with link to the post, if possible). They don't have to be invented for a Rivendell book prompt to be included, but it would be appreciated if you mentioned briefly how the work ended up in the Rivendell library, if your fanwork itself doesn't already make it obvious!

ETA: Erestor's still working on this, although his updates are irregular and may be a little delayed.
I know there have been further additions to the Rivendell library by Moetushie, Starbrow  and Dreamflower--and I may have overlooked others!

This is a fabulous idea for the library prompt! Do these have to be newly written books. I have at least two stories about books which might have found their way to the Rivendell Library through Elrond in my own body of work--

She absolutely appreciates it! :oD And yes, Oshun, you can read our short conversation, I'll send you the link. This project idea of mine might see the light much sooner than I thought it would. *g* Thank you both for the encouragement!

A Ponderous Tome (viewstory.php?sid=486) contains a history book which is called A History of the Noldorin Settlement of Beleriand by Aicestel of Tirion. And again another story of mine Forbidden Lore (browse.php?type=class&type_id=5&classid=95) about young Elrond, who must have been a constant reader, features a bound manuscript, unattributed and undated, containing an detailed account of the love affair between Fingon and Maedhros.

Sorry! Misunderstood.

Hee! This is a delightful idea, and I will be sure to let Erestor know if I come across anything relevant to his research.

Eeeee, metafic! :D Love the idea and I did laugh out loud at the mention of Aragorn's reading habits. I hope this catalogue grows a bit more yet!

Love this idea!

(Aragorn and the rumours are 100% wrong about the authorship of the Quenya Tale, obviously, but it's good marketing for a poem to be attached to the name of a famous bard, and Daeron clearly can't have written this one! I also suspect that the Nargothrond part of the book, which doesn't paint two Feanorions in a very good light at all, has been mysteriously torn out and lost, and I do believe you can blame that on Maglor Feanorion!)

Also, there's a copy of Athrabeth Finrod ah Andreth and other notes by Finrod which concern themselves solely with philosophy, in the Library of Imladris, as per Elrond in Your First Legendary Elvenking (http://b2mem.livejournal.com/287450.html). (There are rumours that Elrond has a private collection of 'other works' by Finrod, but the only thing you can ever get out of him is that Finrod was clearly very, um, dedicated to his study of the Edain.)

And there's now another book for the catalogue, Rhymes For Little People (http://b2mem.livejournal.com/291366.html).

This one is definitely by Maglor, and carries great sentimental value to Elrond. Over time, it becomes one of the Library of Imladris' most popular works and is copied hundreds of times (though probably without the lovely hand illumination of the original).

It is one of the first books added to the library once it was built, donated from Elrond's personal collection, and one of the last books to leave it, as Elrond passed it on to his sons and their heirs, so it left the Library only when they left Imladris for good (whether that is to go to Valinor, or to die, I leave as an exercise in speculation for the reader).

Himring, this is AWESOME! ♥ And it takes off my book projcet idea to another and even more fascinating level, for of course such a virutal library would need a catalogue, and writing that would be exciting in itself! *beams and does a happy dance*

Edit: And this is an idea in itself and might spawn fic, at least from my part. Or additional-bunnies-in-fic...
