Author's Notes: Well, this is what came to me when I saw the prompt. Obviously it is partially inspired by movie-verse, in which Frodo, Sam, Merry and Pippin collide in the middle of Farmer Maggot's cornfield. Since the word "corn" has another meaning in most of the rest of the world, I've chosen to use the word "maize" which is used elsewhere than the USA, and is not unfamiliar to most Americans, though it isn't common here. Other notes at the end of the story.
This is a set of eleven drabbles.
Summary: The Gaffer is not amused when Bilbo and Frodo want to grow a "furrin" food from Buckland.

Date: 2015-03-10 02:43 pm (UTC)Frodo is far from clueless. In my version of Buckland, even the Master's family has to help out at planting and harvest time; and garden chores are usually one of the punishments meted out to teens and tweens who get into trouble (along with mucking stables and scrubbing pots). So he does know what he's doing and isn't afraid of hard work.
I didn't specify, but I see this as fairly early in Frodo's move to Bag End--perhaps the year after he's moved in. So the Gaffer still doesn't know all he's capable of. Plus, the Gaffer's used to gentry like the S.-B.s, who wouldn't know what to do with a tiller if it bit them.
It does very much earn Hamfast's respect!
Thank YOU, dear, for such a lovely bunny! You are very good at those!
