Summary: Sometimes the matchmakers are right.

When Friends Play Cupid

Kin and friends and other folk thought they were suited,
a perfect match in their station and in temperament.
He was too proud to admit them right;
she too haughty for the same reason.
How could others ever know them
so much better than themselves?
It took "chance" encounters
to prove them
most happily
wrong.

I've not "met" the happy couple but I'm enjoying your writing, as always.

Eomer and Lothiriel are a canon couple, although they only get together in the Appendices. Eomer is, of course, the new king of Rohan and Lothiriel is Faramir's cousin, the daughter of Imrahil of Dol Amroth.

Since we really know nothing about their courtship except the year they got married, fanfic writers LOVE to write about their romance.

My main suspects are Faramir and Eowyn, who'd find it totally perfect for his cousin to marry her brother, and Merry and Pippin who'd think it good fun to match them up! (Also possibly the new king and queen of Gondor and assorted other friends and kinfolk, LOL!)

I really like this. I'm not normally one for very short stories, but you manage to tell so much with just a few well-chosen words. There's such a wealth of story suggested by these lines.

For some reason, the whole set-up makes me think of Jane Austen. It makes me want to read a novel about their courtship written in the style of a Regency comedy of manners. :-D
