Forty Years in the Wilderness

It was on Cerin Amroth where we pledged our troth,
a golden day like no other I have known.
But the road would be a long one:
laid out before us was our destiny
a winding path through dark peril
to tread ere we could
once more be together.
Now and forever:
I love
him.

These have all been beautifully written. I like the way "a winding path through dark peril to tread" winds from one line to another!

Forty years made one terribly long betrothal period. For Arwen it might have seemed to pass quickly--after all, she was over 2700 years old at the time, but it proved about a full lifetime longer for Aragorn. At least with his longer lifespan he had time to appreciate the rewards for his own patience.
