Inner Skills and Demonstrations
An uproar from the commanders met his comment. "Did you hear him?" "How can he say such rubbish?" "I told my wife he was here … now I regret it." "A horse trainer?"
Elrond sat back and smiled, then turned slightly to look at Erestor and Glorfindel. "Would you care for some tea? It is early." The two elves nodded. "Erestor, if you would please? Tea and cups are on the sideboard. Pour a cup for me also."
By the time tea had been set in front of the three, the complaints had died down. A slightly heavier elf in a cuirass stood, arms akimbo. "You say you have been sent by the Valar. Why send you? Why not come themselves - defeat Sauron as they defeated Morgoth?"
Glorfindel stood, looking at each elf in the room. "The defeat of Morgoth resulted in the inundation of Beleriand and came close to breaking Arda into pieces. The Valar have great power, but we are now responsible for our own future. Although aid may arrive on these shores, never again will the Valar walk upon Middle Earth."
Elrond stood as Glorfindel sat again. "I am quite curious about what this heroic horse trainer can teach our troops. Glorfindel, are you willing to demonstrate your skills with weapons on our firing ranges and clash with some of our better warriors on the practice field?"
"Of course, Lord Elrond. I may be 'only a horse trainer', but I am a very good one." He smiled a predatory grin. In a movement almost too quick to follow, he suddenly stood next to the commander who had initially questioned his qualifications. "Would you prefer to demonstrate your skills against me now or later?"
"Oh, I think after breakfast will be fine," Elrond said, hiding a smile.

Date: 2016-03-13 01:36 am (UTC)I'm sure Glorfindel can hold his own, but he still will need to work with the other commanders under Elrond's guidance. I'm not sure how things will work, but I'll see what our favorite balrog-slayer tells me for my next chapter.
