Oh, this made me weep for Elwing and her children. :( I adore Elwing, and this image was very close to how I imagine her taking that final leap, though you've made it more vivid to me than I ever have, I think. Thank you for the lovely read!

Yes, it's astonishing, isn't it?
Not much detail to go on in canon at all--but everyone seems to come away with strong views about what happened and yet how they contradict each other!
And that is even before fanon comes in.
Yours is a very coherent interpretation and very vividly described.

Indeed! I think it speaks to how the world Tolkien has created feels so emotionally real, and then where the text has gaps, we all fill it in according to our own imagination and experience. I don't claim my interpretations are more valid than anyone else's, of course.
