The copy for these are written by a reader who is on the mailing lists of far too many publishing companies. Why not use some of the dozens of prompts of yet another annual B2MeM to design book covers or ads, write ad copy, review, or draft summaries of books I would not be likely to write? I'm not writing any of these. Do not ask! But if you want to adopt any as plot bunnies, knock yourself out!

I know nothing about shipbuilding. I do love seaports! I take Alex to one of the nearby ones at least once a year! Last year we went to the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Ha! Not going to be writing this novel.

It's hideous, isn't it? I can think of reasons for why it is hard to concentrate, etc. But mainly I think writers' block is not lack of imagination or desire, but is some vague amorphous type of psychic resistance to pushing through when one hits a rough spot in a story.

I don't want to, therefore I can't? I hadn't thought of it that way, but... it's possible, yes. Factor in a bit of stress and some family concerns and it makes sense.

I can only write one thing at a time and I have a passel of WIPs and intend to finish every single one of them before I die or go blind! The last thing in the world I need are new ideas for more! But something like this is fun and no pressure. This way, I might actually get to continue to write this month, instead of losing a month. (It was B2MeM that actually first gave me writers block! So I have to figure out how to work around it and not hurt myself. Because I do still want to feel part of the fandom.)

I have three novels and two novellas on the back burners at the moment. Between the lot of them it amounts to an investment of 300,000 words or more. So, yeah! It bothers me that I seem not to get back to them in a timely manner. Or maybe finish one or two of them this year (I think that every year)? I feel still tremendously attached to all of them. Not like I lost interest.

Things like that happen in the real world all the time! Poor Olwe! I like to think he built even better ships after the destruction of them all along with his ship yards. Great chance to take what he learned and start afresh. (Not that that makes it OK!)

I like to think Olwë built better ships after the destruction too - I agree that it doesn't make it OK, but well, almost nobody gets to live in a world where only good or ok things happen to them, and sometimes all there is to do is pick up the pieces and start over. I'd rather not picture the elves as hopelessly stuck mourning for eternity, when they at least have more time than we do to fix things.

As is the blurb itself; I've wondered what would've happened after. (No desire to write it, but I have wondered.)

Can I just say, this idea is just brilliant. Also, the "Swan Ships" blurb captures the sort-of weird drama advertising of these kinds of books (I'm not even sure what genre I'd put this in, though it feels all too familiar to me - economical drama?) all too perfectly.
Looking forward to more of these as I go through the tag :3
