Summary: Dol Guldur is in Mirkwood, so it must have troubled Thranduil. I don't know what's brought him out there in the storm. There must be a story..?

Excellent black and white example! You do beautiful work. I am so jealous. I'll just be a grownup about it and enjoy your lovely work!

Oh, excellent! I do have to wonder...Hmmm, that is awfully close. Maybe it's after Sauron is gone and he, Celeborn, Galadriel and Gandalf (I think that's right, and Radagast, too?) went there to clean things up. (At least, if I'm remembering right and this isn't all out of my own head, but I could have sworn they did)

*pops out of the random Thranduil & Celeborn fangirl hole* Gandalf was there the first time they went to Dol Guldur (during The Hobbit) but Thranduil wasn't (he was off dealing with dwarves, Bilbo, etc). The second and final time they went to Dol Guldur, during LotR, the leaders were just Celeborn, Galadriel, Thranduil, and Radagast - Gandalf was off in Gondor.

(Sorry if you didn't want answers from random people, but they're my fandom loves).

Oooh, thank you. :D my loves too, I'm just glad to know I wasn't making it all up in my head. Just mixing the two times up, LOL.

It also depends whether you're going with movie or bookverse :D

Eeep...no wonder I got confused, if they're different on this topic! Knowing both, sometimes stuff runs together in my head...

Oh yeah, I forget about movie verse, probably because I ignored that whole thing because Celeborn wasn't there...

You're welcome! :D Believe me, I mix events from the books up in my head all the time...

He looks rather as though he's checking he's not being followed. Or perhaps he heard a sound.... I really like this, Tia.

I really like this! It has a creepy feeling too it that fits Dol Guldur and makes Thranduil look cautious/slightly startled. :D

This is very nice! A lovely mix of sharp highligts and smooth transitions. I like the windswept thorny look of the trees behind him and the light behind the bridge and the "castle" really makes it stand out as a dark and ominous place in the distance.

I love the pencil-drawing feeling this gives. The monochrome colouring (can you even say that in English?) gives the whole scene another layer of intensity, I think, and makes it even more threatening.

Nice photoshop work. I do a lot of work with that program, but haven't really done a lot with photomanip. You've got a real knack for the process.

I saw your artwork and just couldn't help myself. This drabble practically wrote itself. Enjoy.

Too Close - by Aeärwen

“We have come too far south, my King,” Galion said, halting his horse. “The air grows dark and heavy.”

Thranduil said nothing, but kept moving forward with a frown. “We know this place well, old friend, and yet, not at all anymore.”

Galion twisted left and then right. “Have we been here before often enough to know it?”

“Yes. Long ago, it was the Emyn Duir, remember? No more...”

“Indeed.”

Together they rode slowly until they could finally see what was ahead. Thranduil shuddered at the sight. “You are right, Galion. We have come far too close to Dol Guldur.”

How lovely! The fear and apprehension on Thranduil's face is palpable, and the black and white is perfect for this atmospheric, spooky scene.

This is gorgeous, spooky, and atmospheric! Nicely done.

(Thranduil is one of my all-time faves as well so I love this that much more).
