Summary:  After the Battle of Minas Tirith, someone cares for the surviving horses.

“Hold it now, m’girl.  There, I’ve got you.”  Freolof soothed the nervous mare, the words coming  automatically, as they had for the dozens of war steeds he’d re-shoed since sunrise.  The comforting scent of horse moderated the stench from the bloody mud of the battlefield as he bent over her near hindfoot. 

“Ah, yes. A new shoe for you.  Must’ve lost the old when you trampled an orc or three on that charge, eh, girl? T’was a long ride and then a glorious battle.  A new shoe’s not much of a reward, but it’s the best I can give you.”
