From the corner of his eye, Elessar caught a glimpse of midnight black hair and lowered grey eyes, and for a heart-struck moment thought that it was his beloved Arwen who stood at his side.

But then it was Imrahil, Prince of Dol Amroth, and not that of Elrond Halfelven who placed the woman’s hand in his. “I give to thee my daughter, Lothiriel, for thy wife.”

Slender, trembling fingers rested lightly on his own.

Lothiriel would become his queen, but his love was forever buried with Arwen Undomiel, slain in an orc ambush on her wedding journey from Imladris.
