B2MeM Prompt and Path: The Darkening of Valinor - Purple
Format: Drabble
Genre: Drama
Rating: Teen
Warnings: Canon Character Death, Disturbing Themes (Small child at scene of murder)
Characters: Celebrimbor, Finwë, Curufin
Pairings: N/A
Creator’s Notes (optional): N/A
Summary: Celebrimbor is left behind with his great-grandfather, and then he is left behind alone.
Celebrimbor is left behind with Finwë most days, while his father is busy in the forges and his uncles are off doing other work. Most days Finwë plays with him, waving off the offers from others to help, saying that he enjoys spending time with his descendants.
Today, Finwé hides him behind the table cloth and tells him to stay silent.
And he does, even when he hears the mace hit his great-grandfather and feels the blood seeping under the table.
Curufin finds his son in time to see him covered in his great-grandfather’s blood, before darkness surrounds them all.

Date: 2017-03-17 07:43 am (UTC)It had not occurred to me as a possibility.

Date: 2017-03-19 11:44 pm (UTC)Thoughts that lead to this story:
"Huh, where was Celebrimbor while the Darkening happened?"
"Huh, Celebrimbor's final stand is rather similar to Finwë's."
*story*
This is where all my possibilities come from, either noticing random details and having questions, or reading fanfic and having questions.

Date: 2017-03-19 03:43 pm (UTC)Though, it may have also left an impression on him. I see parallels between his capture and eventual death protecting the three rings ("But the Elves fled from him; and three of their rings they saved, and bore them away, and hid them." & "Celebrimbor, desperate, himself withstood Sauron on the steps of the great door of the Mírdain; but he was grappled and taken captive, and the House was ransacked.") and Finwë's death trying to protect the Silmarils from Morgoth ("But Melkor also was there, and he came to the house of Fëanor, and there he slew Finwë King of the Noldor before his doors and spilled the first blood in the Blessed Realm; for Finwë alone had not fled from the horror of the Dark.")
The difference of course being that Celebrimbor had already sent the three rings away to hide them, and Fëanor had them hidden in his house to steal after Finwë was killed. Learning from his grandfather's mistakes, perhaps, but also the last one to not flee from the current dark lord and killed or captured defending the front door....
I obviously have way too many thoughts about these things.
