Title:  Appreciating Literacy

Summary:  Gaffer Gamgee needs assistance in understanding his employer’s wishes.

Gaffer Gamgee scratched his head as he looked at the bit of paper that Mister Baggins had given to him.  They had discussed if the run-off from the cold room might be turned into a small scenic cascade in the garden, or if it should just be left as it was.

“Sam-lad!” He finally shouted, irked that he couldn’t understand the script on the page. 

When Samwise had shyly explained that Mr. Bilbo wanted to order three dogwood trees for the side garden, the Gaffer decided that mayhap it wasn’t a bad thing that the boy had learned his letters.
