B2MeM Prompt and Path: “It was the possibility of darkness that made the day seem so bright.” Stephen King (Green Path)
Format: Drabble series- "Harthad Uluithiad", "Bronwe athan Harthad", "All Her Choices"
Genre: Gen
Rating: G
Warnings: None
Characters: Frodo, Sam, Eowyn
Pairings: none
Summary: Each character has a dark time during War, but what made them see the task through?

It all seemed helpless, really. Samwise did not know how they could’ve gone on with no food nor drink, not to mention hope. What was he thinking? He was a ninnyhammer to have chosen this route to die.

His master had long given up hope, so why didn’t he?

He thought of water, of food, but more importantly, where was the end to this foul land? When would they be at the mountain and be done?

The darkness was oppressive, the cold air flowing from Cirith Gorgor was bitter. All of a sudden, Sam saw a glimpse of a star, and hope returned again to his steadfast heart. This darkness was only a passing thing. He was in a tale where heroes would make a difference. The end to his story was one he could only determine.

Resolutely, he stood up.

He would continue on even to the bitter end.

……

Torment through mind and body. Fire and ash swirled in his mind. The Eye was looking for him- he could focus on nothing more.

He would try to focus, but sometimes, his finger would close into his bosom where the cool ring lay, so close to his heart. Put it on. But then, he would retract, concentrating on something else.

What was he holding on to? It was all so hopeless. Tomorrow would not come.

“Now, Mr. Frodo, time for another go. Mr. Frodo, here’s some water, food.”

The Quest would be for naught if it weren’t for his Sam.

....
All the choices made thus far in life were not her own. She did not choose to be a shieldmaiden, did not choose to serve a dotard uncle. She would ride out, take up a sword and fight.

And now, she was without love, without any hope of anyone really appreciating her. Her own kin were all going out to war, and why not she? Why was she left behind?

Her only fear was a cage without renown and to be forgotten forever, no chance of proving her own worth.

She would do what she would want for a change.

This is a nice series. All three were heroes, whether they could see it or not.

You know how much I love these but I'll say so again. I love these!
They capture what each of the three are feeling, their doubts, their worries, and they show off the inner strength of the characters. Keep writing. You do it so very well. (Hugs)

I love this look at three different people finding their own depths of bravery and their own paths to tread.
