B2MeM Prompt and Path: Fanworks Recs: Topic of your choice (yellow path)
Format: rec list
Genre: femslash
Rating: (see below)
Warnings: (see below)
Characters: (see below)
Pairings: Elemmírë/Lalwen, Haleth/Original Female Character, Idril/Nimloth, Ilmarë/Thuringwethil, Lúthien/Thuringwethil
Creator’s Notes (optional): The topic of my choice is femslash. I also looked for stories with less feedback that I haven’t recced before: all of these stories have fewer than 4 top-level comments and 10 kudos.
Summary: Six femslash fics based on the Silmarillion.

All These Wars Are Over by amyfortuna
Format: ficlet (401 words)
Genre: femslash
Rating: G
Warnings: none
Characters: Elemmírë, Lalwen
Pairings: Elemmírë/Lalwen
Summary: Elemmírë looks for Írimë after the War of Wrath.

I love this scene -- so beautiful and joyous. Elemmírë/Lalwen is one of my favorite obscure Silmarillion pairings, and I really like how the author has written them.

Haleth and Ioreth, Alive by bunn
Format: ficlet (557 words)
Genre: femslash
Rating: G
Warnings: Canon-typical violence
Characters: Haleth, Original Female Character
Pairings: Haleth/Original Female Character
Summary: When day came, bringing a brief respite, Haleth took her father’s armour. Ioreth took her brother’s. No need for speeches from Haleth, who might well be the last leader of the Haladin. Everyone knew that the only hope was to hold on. And they fought on: Haleth and Ioreth, sword in hand, and very little hope.

Two women defiantly clinging to life and love in the midst of a hopeless battle. It seems very fitting that Haleth finds her mortal lover more beautiful than the shining-eyed Elves.

The foam like flowers on the shore by Calima
Format: short story (1119 words)
Genre: femslash
Rating: Not Rated
Warnings: Author chose not to warn; “I accidentally fridged Tuor”
Characters: Idril, Nimloth, Eärendil, Elwing
Pairings: Idril/Nimloth; mentions of past Idril/Tuor and Dior/Nimloth, and future Eärendil/Elwing
Summary: They have no choice, except to build a life together.

This fic is a canon divergence AU, but one that feels plausible; it shows Idril and Nimloth as two leaders who have lost (almost) everything, but who are determined to rebuild and to protect their children and their people. I like their strength and defiance, their clash of wills and their fragile but growing accord.

What We Learn in Shadows and Blood by cereus
Format: poetry (161 words)
Genre: femslash, poetry
Rating: T
Warnings: Vampirism
Characters: Lúthien, Thuringwethil
Pairings: Lúthien/Thuringwethil
Summary: "Come speak to me, you, Who wove safety out of the shadows in her dark hair." Thuringwethil and Luthien discuss a truce... and a meeting.

I really like this poem -- beautiful and sensual. It makes me believe that Luthien and Thuringwethil can find something in common, even if only for a moment.

Birth of Comets by Scribe_of_Mirrormere
Format: short story (1235 words)
Genre: femslash
Rating: T
Warnings: Author chose not to warn
Characters: Ilmarë, Thuringwethil
Pairings: Ilmarë/Thuringwethil
Summary: Her partner and other half, Thuringwethil, was born kissing her.

I love the concept of this fic and how it adds a more scientific aspect to Tolkien’s fantasy world. I like how the Maiar are written as having human feelings, but also with a slightly alien nature, such as Ilmarë expressing her feelings by creating different kinds of stars. The ending seems perfectly fitting to the tragedy.

and the water is always calling by Solanaceae
Format: short story (2589 words)
Genre: femslash
Rating: G
Warnings: Author chose not to warn
Characters: Elemmírë, Lalwen, Original Female Character(s)
Pairings: Elemmírë/Lalwen
Summary: Elemmírë, alone in Valinor.

I really enjoyed this depiction of Elemmírë and Lalwen’s relationship and their love and devotion to each other. The way the author writes Elemmírë's visions is very beautiful and vivid, and I could feel her sadness at their separation. I especially love Írimë's fierceness and defiance.
