'Because the truth was, and he knew it well, that he had terrible cows.' -William Goldman, 'The Princess Bride'
Tears unnumbered shall ye shed… The words echoed in Telufinwë’s mind. Pityafinwë sat beside him, in his wheeled chair, withered legs trembling. The study door opened, and the twins looked up.
“It’s done now, Pityo, Telvo.” Morifinwë strode to the desk, carrying a bundle in his arms. “The traitor is dead.”
The twins stirred, and bile rose in Telufinwë’s throat as he realised what Moryo was dropping on the surface before them. Black cloth, as bloodstained as Moryo’s face and clothes, fell away, and the naked, charred body of Ulwarth was displayed for them to see.
“W-what will you do with him?” Pityo whispered. Moryo looked disgusted. “Display him on the battlements. Seize his goods - except the cattle. He has terrible cows.”
Burned bodies – Pityafinwë trembled, recalling the burned husks of swanships, feeling the pain which had nearly cost him his life. Seabirds shrieked in his memories, and he began to weep.
Telufinwë’s lips curled. “Get it out of here, Brother,” he snapped at Moryo, knowing he’d pay for it later. “I’ll see to Ambarussa.” Such a waste of life, he thought bitterly, comforting his shuddering twin. When he looked up next, Morifinwë, and the charred husk, had gone.

Date: 2018-03-08 10:27 pm (UTC)The idea of Pityo narrowly surviving Losgar is very interesting, especially since you made him disabled. How do his bothers feel about him, since he tried to run away? How does he feel about the Oath he tried to abandon? And if he's in a wheelchair, does he not fight at Sirion in your verse?

Date: 2018-03-08 10:40 pm (UTC)He will recover, eventually. I feel like most of it is psychosomatic; his legs aren't as badly injured as he (and Telvo) think they are. Most of the scarring is mental/psychological. He needs a mind-healer, really, and I think his eldest brothers will do their utmost to find him one.
He can stand and walk with aid - I pitched the idea of him wearing leg braces under his breeches to my co-author Emma. He'll have to recover in time for Doriath, and yes, he will fight (and die) at Sirion.
Thanks so much for your review! A lot of thought provoking questions.
