Mandos kept his promises; he did not release Feanor from his custody until the world had been broken in one final, apocalyptic battle. The jewels for which so many had died were delivered to him, by the hand of Ulmo, and of Aule, and of Earendil.

When he again beheld the greatest creations of his hands, he could not summon the fierce protectiveness he had once felt for them, except as a distant memory. Perhaps, cut off from the physical for so long, he had come to appreciate in spite of himself that which could not be locked in a hoard.

Yavanna approached him, pausing halfway to glance back at her husband with a look that so clearly said “Do I have to?” that Feanor almost laughed.

She knelt before him--reluctantly, obviously, but she knelt. “We thank you for your wisdom in preserving this light ere we knew we would have need of it. Now, noble son of Finwe and Miriel, will you allow...will you please allow me to open the jewels you have created and release their light, that I may create new Trees and light the world once again?”

She asked so nicely. How could he refuse?

Oh, this is well done - I really like it! Especially the idea of Feanor finally giving the Silmarilli up just because Yavanna asked nicely, lol.

Oh yay, what a long-awaited happily-ever-after for Feanor ... and for renewed Arda!

Oh dear, all of that work and all of those deaths so easily erased because that which Feanor once treasured above all else he now thought of little worth. I totally go with the story, but feel a bit sorry for so many who gave their everything for the recovery of these jewels. Actually, I'm rather amazed that the Valar would want to have the trees once again now that they have the Sun and the Moon.

Still, it's really a lovely story and well-written.

Yes! Well done, Fëanor, I'm proud of you! I loved this, especially: Perhaps, cut off from the physical for so long, he had come to appreciate in spite of himself that which could not be locked in a hoard. - feels very right for his character arc.
