B2MeM Prompt, Card and Number: “Women of the Silmarillion” - B12: Women from different cultures
Format: Double Drabble
Genre: Gen
Rating: General
Warnings: No warnings apply
Characters: Avari OCs
Pairings: None
Summary: An Avari woman is troubled by recent astronomical developments.
Nenië looked up at the sky and sighed. That great shining thing was blocking her view of Carnil again. The clan council had agreed that their prayers to the Maker of Stars would probably still be heard even if they couldn't always see the stars, but it just didn't feel right.
At least the other Great Stars were still visible when she faced them in turn and chanted the familiar words. When the Silver Wanderer's fiery twin sister took to the sky, they couldn't see any stars at all.
Some had suggested moving the village, but that wouldn't help. Armo had walked all the way to the Long Lake and said the lights had passed over his head just the same no matter how far he went, and other scouts sent in other directions gave similar reports. The Wise Ones were of the opinion that the lights must cross all the way from one end of the world to the other, and could not be escaped.
They weren't all bad. A light brighter than the biggest bonfire was powerfully effective at driving away fearsome things that lurked in the darkness.
But they did make it troublesome to say her prayers.
