I like the insight you give the reader of different aspects of Maedhros and Maglor in this. I've always been unable to think of the futile search for Dior's sons without contrasting it in my head to the fostering of Elrond and Elros. In this story you have Maedhros seeking to rescue the twins and unable to find them. Then later it is Maglor who expresses the desire to care for Elrond and Elros. The two tales always made me feel like the oldest Feanorian brothers still had room for nurturing despite the heartbreak of the loss of all of those younger brothers. I found your telling effective and just a tad off center from the usual fanon in a lovely and thought-provoking way.

I think these two stories (Elured + Elurin, Elros + Elrond) are a big part of what makes Maedhros and Maglor such interesting characters to me. There are other factors, no doubt, but the desire to turn away from their past deeds - that always speaks to me deeply. I know you have put more thought into these characters than I have, so I am glad to see my portrayal resonating with you. Thank you for reading.
