B2MeM Prompts, Card, and Number: B7 was written a long time ago (Rec and Review Femslash), O72 love (Deep Thoughts)
Format: Rec and Review
Genre: Femslash
Rating: Mature
Warnings: river/tree sex. Brief mention of it in comment. Also not sure how/if I should warn for this, but complex Maiarin ideas of love that could be interpreted as infidelity but are more like polyamory and are really more their own thing.
In Fimbrethil’s case it is a little bit more like actual infidelity so perhaps tread with caution if that’s an issue for you. I’m not quite sure how to describe the dynamics. And I may be rambling warnings for something that will be seen as nothing, but I’m going with CNTW just to be sure.
Characters: Fimbrethil, Goldberry, other characters are referred to
Pairing: Fimbrethil/Goldberry
Summary: Author’s Summary: As the third age rolls on, an entwife meets a certain river-daughter
Reviewer’s Note: I suggest you read Come Back to Me I before reading my review/comment, as there will be spoilers (or at least discussion of many parts of it.) I seem to be running out of adjectives! But I really am as enthusiastic as I write, just not sure how to keep it from sounding repetitive and fake. Doing my best...

Posted all the way back in 2006, this is a wonderful (and fairly plausible/canon-compliant) story. I am not quite sure what to say about this piece— I love almost everything about it! So this “review” may be more of a conglomeration of anecdotes. All the descriptions of Fimbrethil and Goldberry, both physically and emotionally/mentally, are extremely well done. The way Goldberry is depicted is really intriguing, this piece definitely makes me long to continually dig deeper into all that she can be.
The commentary throughout on the nature of love for the Maiar and Ents is fascinating, and while I’m not sure that I agree with it, it certainly left me thinking. The expansion of the function, creation and purpose of the river of Mirkwood and it’s relation to dreams (and in turn, their relation to reality) is quite nice.
I could really feel all the emotions in the sex scene(s), which is extremely impressive considering it was describing water on a tree, more or less. In general this piece has very vivid depiction of the senses, but especially the sense of touch, so that I can almost feel the rain drops, the breeze, the lapping water and the grasses and leaves. I very much recommend this!
