Grey Sails at Sunset


For three ages of the world they have been together;
The fourth sees them apart. She passed the test.
She passes into the West, sailing, sailing West.
She is not diminished in his eyes.
Nor will her beauty fade away.
He watches the grey sails.
His time will come.
She will wait.
Love is
Strong.

Lovely - and I do admire the structure! Is there a name for a poem structured like that? (I've got the Poetic Forms card, and am slightly dreading some of the ones I've never heard of...)

It's called a dribble (starts with ten words, dribbles down to one) and so far as I know, is a form unique to fanfic.

I have Poetic Forms too, but so far haven't had any of my numbers called. I love structured poetry, so I look forward to trying some that I've never heard of either.

Perhaps I missed seeing it when I checked. I get rather confused at times. I have ten cards, and I don't know how some of these people with 20 or more are managing!

I've heard rumours of everything from Excel spreadsheets to full-scale databases. Frankly, I can't help feeling that if that amount of effort is going into keeping track of prompts before people even think about doing any writing, things are getting slightly out of hand... ;-)

Well, I wouldn't say she's my *favorite*-- too tall and no hair on her feet-- but she is a character I have come to love and admire very much over the decades.

At any rate, she is half of one of my favorite canon couples, so I enjoyed the chance to write of this moment.

Same here...but the first time I read LoTR she was my favourite, and while over the years I came to love other characters, I came back to Galadriel once I had read The Silmarillion and Unfinished Tales. :)

Oh, Barbara, I love seeing the lines diminishing, as do those sails as they fade into the distance. A perfect medium for this look at that relationship.
