HOBBITON HILL

As the highest point in Hobbiton, many considered Bungo rather pretentious for building his grand smial atop the hill, but Farmer Cotton scoffed, pointing out that he received a good price. Tom had only used it for spare sheep pasture.

Opinions shifted when Mister Baggins also built three workers smials, rented out at very reasonable rates. They came complete with a shared privy, wash house, and later, workshop, barn and pigstye. Bagshot Row became a desirable address for the poorer folk of Hobbiton.

The Baggins' reputation faltered with Bilbo, but never among those fortunate enough to live in Bagshot Row.

I like to think of Bilbo being a good landlord, even if considered a little eccentric.

Love this. Bilbo may have stretched the bounds of Hobbit propriety, but he always made sure to continue his father's work and take care of those on Bagshot Row.

Yes. He liked people in general I think. Even with the Ring warping his mind he wanted to give Frodo and himself the biggest party that Hobbiton had ever seen.

Awww, yes! Bilbo makes a wonderful neighbour and landlord. <3 He's so good to everyone, even when they think he's crazy. Unless they're the S-B's, but no one's good enough for them in their own minds, so.

I was thinking, what did Frodo live on? Bilbo said all his money was gone, when he left the Shire. So I had to come up with some income for his heir.
