B2MeM Prompt, Card and Number:N45: Spontaneous (31-Orange), Tree (33-Green), Royalty (36-Purple), Exile (51-Darkness, Darkness)
Format: Drabble
Genre: Gen
Rating: PG
Warnings: Reference to death.
Characters: Fingolfin, Feanor
Creator’s Notes (optional):This one took a while, and several ideas were tried and discarded. It seems that I returned to a part of the Silmarillion that I’ve used for years, but it’s a lynchpin scene.
Summary:Fingolfin makes the decision to cross the Helcaraxë.
STEPPING INTO EXILE
Fingolfin shook his head as he saw the glow of flames on the far eastern horizon.
He understood that Fëanor’s earlier actions were fueled by the theft of his masterwork – the Silmarils and the murder of their father. He had witnessed Fëanor and his sons, standing underneath the great tree in the central courtyard of Tirion, swearing their dread Oath. Upon Finwë’s death Fëanor had inherited leadership of their people, but his clear thoughts were buried beneath tragedy and sorrow. Nonetheless, Fëanor was the King and must be obeyed.
He sighed deeply and strode forward into exile, ice and horror.
