Her mother was long dead by the time Ancalimë took the Sceptre. A pity, since her accession would have validated her choice to marry and have a son in the eyes of Erendis the Proud.

As the years wore on, Ancalimë turned to the box that held her mother's elestirnë* more and more often, and that feeling of anger that had masked her wish for approval slowly changed into hatred. You're better alone, had been her mother's message. Yet, when Ancalimë thought of her life, her only happy memories came from the times when she had not been.

*Elestirnë is the jewel Aldarion brought Erendis from Middle-earth, and that she wore after they were betrothed.
