B2MeM Challenge: The Dark Rider’s Horses and Other Creatures (Other Silmarillion-based locations) I want an Origins story -- characters optional--but I like to think of Beleg . . . Anything dated from the shores of Cuiviénen to the early days of the march across the mountains to the sea. . .

Characters: Círdan, and the earliest mariners among the Quendi.
Pairings: none (Círdan's love of the sea?}
Summary: I wrote the original prompt and bought it also, but decided to take my idea of Origins and apply it to Círdan's earliest days and claim to fame. Enjoy!

Source is screen cap from opening credits from season 3, Vikings, The History Channel, actually mostly my head and looked at a picture from the Viking Ship Museum; used a mouse and Gimp photo-editing program. T

What a sweetheart you are! Thank you. It's really not that tricky. I enjoy playing with photos and screencaps. Some people do beautiful things using the same methods only on a much higher level.

That is just gorgeous! I love the brightness of the rich blue sky contrasted with the dark silhouette of the ship. And a swan-ship at that! I also love the way the stars glow, and the font is perfect.

I wish I knew how to do stuff like this.

Awww! Thanks, Zhie. I was inspired by watching the History Channel's Vikings series last night. I won't turn geeky on you and describe how I see elements of myth and history from that era and place in Tolkien's work. Let's stick with "cute idea" for now. Thanks again!

I know it's gone now, but I saw the picture earlier and wanted to say that I really liked what you did - and from one photoshopper to another, I hate replicating night in pictures, but on top of the composition and the text yours looked very nice indeed! How did you get that effect? It looked liked a hard light or colour burn layer in dark blue, I thought, but since the picture is gone now I'm no longer sure. It worked, at any rate. :)

I think one would call it "colour burn." I did it over and over again varying the shades of blue and diddling in between with lightness and contrast. Purely seat-of-the-pants intuitive stuff. So I made my own drawing/digital painting of an original ship and background and am trying to get a near identical colour scheme and having one hell of a time. I hate it when I get what I want once and cannot duplicate it.

I go seat of the pants regularly when it comes to Photoshop, so that's hardly something I can criticize in any way (nor is it something that should be criticized, imho - it's good for learning more functions of the program). Replicating it, though... augh, yes. This is why I always save a .psd file of my photomanips, so I can go back and check what I did if I want to replicate it, but even then sometimes the images make all the difference in how the effects look. And if you're painting entirely now (that's so neat!) I guess it'd be easiest to just paint the light effects the way you want them outright, rather than go for manipulation over your painting.

And if you have a pea brain, that's a scarily huge pea in my book!

Is it still flattery if I mean it? But... *hugs, at any rate* Did I mention yet that I really liked your art prompt of the woman to be tied to Imrahil or Ivriniel? It's giving me all sorts of itchy fingers, since I've been wanting to revisit Dol Amroth, so that'll probably one I'll tackle over the course of the month. :)
