Title:  Sweet Daydream

Summary:  When faced with privations in the field, soldiers are grateful for sweet memories.

“Beans again,” sighed Boromir, making a face at the meal laid before him.  Being Captain General in Osgiliath meant that he ate privately, using proper tableware, where his men had only their rude messkits.  But he ate the same things as they.

“Beans always,” Faramir commiserated.  “I’d hoped to find something nicer when we came to support you.  Like some of those white cakes that Father likes so much.”

“Mmmmmm.  Light, airy, and sweet,  with pounded sugar topping.  And currants, too.  They have to have currants.”

 The brothers grinned at one another, then  reluctantly ate their humble meal of beans.
