Date: 2016-03-02 03:01 pm (UTC)Location (as general or specific as you prefer): Currently potato Europe for most of the year.
Favourite characters: Glorfindel, Maedhros, Celeborn.
How you participate in fandom (fic reading or writing, art, etc.): With a tiny handful of very short fics and occasional fic-reading (usually too shy to comment though). I have lurked in this fandom on and off for over a decade but only recently(ish) started writing fic, and still don't quite dare to approach people of my own accord but am usually more than happy to talk if approached.
Main interests in your Tolkien fanworks (characters, races, relationships, etc): Gondolin. I see some similarities between it and my home country (namely: small, rich, probably overpopulated, multicultural, etc.) so developing headcanons is easy and amusing. Other than that, I mostly stick to First Age Elves, and my favourite relationships are Maedhros/Fingon, Glorfindel/Ecthelion, and Celeborn/Galadriel.
Link(s) to your fanworks (SWG, MPTT, DeviantArt, AO3, etc.): AO3 (http://archiveofourown.org/users/merihobu/works).
Other fandoms you participate in: None.
Other sites you use (Tumblr, Dreamwidth, etc.): None currently relevant to this fandom.
Non-fandom interests: Languages (speak 3, currently learning 3+1), reading, the Arctic, travelling, cute stationery, minimalism (yes I know the last two sound quite contradictory).
How often and what do you post: Sometimes once a month, sometimes once a week, sometimes almost every day. My posts are 99% personal and -- contrary to my stories -- tend to be pretty TL;DR with a fair bit of whining and self-indulgent navel-gazing. I also occasionally picspam (mostly stuff cross-posted from Instagram).
How often you read your friends-list and/or comment: I check my friendslist several times a week (it's pretty dead rn though) but only comment when I have something to say, which could range from every other entry to sporadically depending on person.
Friending policy: Friend and defriend at your leisure (please let me know for the former; feel free to do the latter at your own discretion). I might not feel comfortable adding someone with very conservative opinions, though.
To finish off: what’s your favourite Tolkien quote? Here are some I can think of right now:
– "It was at this point that Bilbo stopped. Going on from there was the bravest thing he ever did. The tremendous things that happened afterwards were as nothing compared to it. He fought the real battle in the tunnel alone, before he ever saw the vast danger that lay in wait."
– "‘I don’t know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.’"
– "‘All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.’"
– "‘Deserves it! I daresay he does. Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then do not be too eager to deal out death in judgement. For even the very wise cannot see all ends.’"
– "There is a seed of courage hidden (often deeply, it is true) in the heart of the fattest and most timid hobbit, waiting for some final and desperate danger to make it grow."
– "Glorfindel was tall and straight; his hair was of shining gold, his face fair and young and fearless and full of joy; his eyes were bright and keen, and his voice like music; on his brow sat wisdom, and in his hand was strength."
– The song Sam sings at the tower of Cirith Ungol.
– "‘Do not be too sad, Sam. You cannot be always torn in two. You will have to be one and whole, for many years. You have so much to enjoy and to be, and to do.’"
– "‘I will not say: do not weep; for not all tears are an evil.’"
