Betrayed!

Ash nazg durbatulûk, ash nazg gimbatul, ash nazg thrakatulûk agh burzum-ishi krimpatul!

Celebrimbor sat frozen at his council table, the discussion cut off mid-word. He saw, across from him, Galadriel’s eyes widen with shock, her cheeks bloodless. She scrabbled at her hand. He was doing the same, removing the Ring he wore even as she was doing.

He must send the two remaining Elven Rings away. He’d never finish the fourth, the proposed Ring of Earth he’d intended for his own use.

Ereinion! Gil-galad would see them properly bestowed, he knew. He could not allow them to remain in Ost-in-Edhil, waiting for the Deceiver to snatch them away for his own purposes!

This is a powerful scene.

Well, it certainly has made sense to me that he'd have created such a Ring had he had the time before Annatar's treachery and true identity was made plain.

A Ring of Earth! My goodness, then you just need a Ring of Heart and the set is complete! :D (Sorry, sorry, my late 80's-90's childhood is showing, I know, but now I've got that song, topped off with by your powers combined... in the back of my mind. I suppose the Planeteers were Ringbearers, of a sort, though who knows who forged those... ahem, anyway, sorry...)

Anyway, I really loved this! :D

Well, the elements for so long were thought to be comprised by earth, water, air, and fire; we have the latter three but not the first represented in the Rings for Elves; I had to imagine that, with his close friendship (or at least collaboration) with Narvi Celebrimbor would have considered such a ring, don't you think? I was in my forties by the time the nineties came up, so wasn't so into popular culture, and my kids were so into metal I didn't hear much else other than my husband's country and my own preference for classical music.

Love the idea of a Ring of Earth! It certainly makes sense, as the only of the "traditional" elements that is missing.
